↳ DETAILS

Æterna Fragma presents “Noise Waves,” released via Ultramar. The EP draws from late-1990s experimental electronic music and generative composition, translating these influences into an abstract visual language rooted in motion, erosion, and suspended form.

The project revisits Björk’s iconic volcanic beats and early algorithmic approaches to sound, using them as a conceptual foundation for the cover artwork. This context materializes as a translucent, geological mass that appears both fragile and dynamic, evoking slow transformation and procedural growth.

A cool color palette and reflective surfaces introduce a sense of distance and depth, while the framing and typography adopt a restrained, minimalist language influenced by Warp Records and The Designers Republic. Textures recall viscous materials reacting to directional light, with contrasts between polished and rough areas intensifying the tension between the organic and the generated.

The piece was created entirely using legacy software. This technical choice deliberately anchors the work in a specific moment of digital experimentation, reclaiming so-called obsolete tools as an active component of the project’s aesthetic and conceptual discourse.
